Hemkund Sahib Chamoli, Garhwal region Uttarakhand , India
Chamoli shot to fame for the famous Chipko movement in 1970's and 80's. The place had however for long been visited year after year by nature lovers and pilgrims. Over the years, it has 'maintained' its scenery and the blessings of mother nature. Chamoli looks straight out of a fairy tale book. The mountainous terrain, a blooming flora, valleys and adventurous landforms, all these make Chamoli incredible. At an altitude of 926 metres, Chamoli stands as a beautiful landscape dotted with temples and shrines. The place is yet to be touched by the rigours of modern city life, for now it rests calmly and peacefully untouched by the urban life. An all season place, summers are pleasant here but winters are quite chilling.
